Coming Up For Air: We Have Been Busy
After a year of silence, Cloudmanic reveals why: we rebuilt our entire infrastructure — unified accounts, oAuth2, a shared launchpad, and a new website — to support multiple products under one brand.
Over the last year many of our customers and partners have reached out to us and asked, "What gives?" We've heard over and over again that our rate of innovation has slowed. We have not released any new or revised features in almost a year. Everyone wants to know, where the heck is this new Heapless and Evermanic product they've been hearing about? Well, today we are going to confess.
About a year ago we realized a few things:
- We are not just a single-application company. Cloudmanic is more than just Skyclerk. Our mission is to better the lives of small businesses via innovative software. While accounting and bookkeeping is important, there is so much more we can do.
- If we wanted to do more, we needed a better infrastructure. We did not want to "reinvent the wheel" for every new product or service we offered. Core infrastructure, such as user accounts, billing, and hosting, all needed to be united.
- We needed to unite our brand. Cloudmanic is about holistically helping small businesses. Moving between our products and services should be a fluid experience. The best way to do that is under a shared umbrella.
What Has Changed?
I am pleased to announce the first release of our new infrastructure today. This has been more than a year in the making, and we are just getting started. Here are the changes you will see with your Skyclerk account:
- Everything now falls under the cloudmanic.com domain. Skyclerk will now live at skyclerk.cloudmanic.com. No longer will you need to access your account via a specialized URL.
- We've moved to oAuth2, which means your user account is now a Cloudmanic user account, not just a Skyclerk account. Once you're logged in, you can move between your different Cloudmanic accounts without re-authenticating. Your Cloudmanic account is simply your email and a password.
- We are introducing a launchpad, a single place to login and quickly see all your accounts. Simply visit accounts.cloudmanic.com, login, and have one-click access to all your different accounts. We are just getting started with launchpad, with more coming soon.
- We are unifying our look and feel. Check out our newly launched website at cloudmanic.com. We will be slowly uniting the design of our applications in the coming year, and soon all of our applications will share this design.
- Speed! Our applications are faster than ever. We have upgraded our infrastructure and improved our code. It is our goal to be fast — really fast.
All of these changes will stay in place for the foreseeable future.
What is Next?
Now that the heavy lifting is behind us, we can get back to what we do best: product innovation. In the coming months, expect to see new and revised features along with the release of Heapless and Evermanic.
This last year of being "heads down" was a critical phase for us. The future is so much brighter now. We are going to be able to innovate at a much faster rate. The end of 2012 and the start of 2013 is going to be an exciting period of new features and products coming to life.
